All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this policy throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.
Short Version
Our conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.
Long Version
Harassment includes, but is not limited to, the following actions:
- Offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), and technology choices;
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following;
- Harassing photography or recording practices;
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events;
- Inappropriate physical contact; and
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
Be kind to others. Do not insult, put down, or mock other attendees. Behave professionally. Remember that sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for the conference.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant continues to engage in harassing behavior, the conference organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.
Reporting
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. They can be identified by their brightly-colored leis.
Conference staff will be happy to provide escorts to participants who feel unsafe, tell those in violation of the code of conduct to leave, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. If violations of the law occur and it becomes necessary to involve law enforcement, conference staff will be ready to notify the police.
Recording and Media Policy
NarraScope is a public conference. By attending, you agree to grant permission for your full or partial image or likeness to be captured and potentially used for marketing or shared on social media networks for promotion. If you would like to request your likeness not be used for this purpose, please contact the conference committee to opt out.
